The best finder of Easter Bunny’s chocolate eggs is your 4 legged friend!

Easter is a time when we take great joy in finding chocolate eggs that the Easter Bunny has hidden well in our garden. But how many of these chocolate eggs do we not find and are found by our 4 legged friend? One egg might cause no harm but if your 4 legged friend is a tiny little 2-3kg puppy, one might be very significant.

Chocolate is derived from roasted seeds of Theobroma cacao. Theobromine is very toxic to dogs and the stronger (darker) the chocolate, the more toxic it is to your pet. Therefore, the less they have to eat before it causes problems. We find that over Easter we will more than likely be making a few dogs vomit due to the ingestion of chocolate. But here are a few pointers

-        Always call and speak with us as we can help you determine if it is a toxic dose of chocolate and if it is, then induce vomiting.

-        The quicker we make them vomit the less chocolate exits the stomach and goes into the intestine where these toxins are absorbed.

-        Consider giving your children a container that is unlikely to be chewed easily to place their chocolate eggs in for safe keeping in their bedrooms.

Please don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions.
